Born in 1992, the Subaru Impreza followed the Leone as the brand's entry-level compact. Sporting a naturally-aspirated, flat four Boxer Engine, the Impreza was offered in both Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) and All-Wheel Drive (AWD) flavors as well as sedan and hatchback body styles. In 1995, Subaru began offering the Outback Sport, a similar offering to the newly released Legacy Outback; featuring increased ride height and rugged side body molding. In 1997, the FWD option was dropped completely, making AWD the standard going forward. In 2001, the US recieved the turbo-charged rally-proven WRX and in 2004, the high-performance STi. 8 years later, Subaru introduced the XV Crosstrek, an Impreza variant with a raised suspension and other outdoor-focused features.
